About the Sega CD
The Sega CD (Mega-CD outside North America) is a CD-ROM add-on for the Genesis that gave it a second CPU, scaling and rotation hardware, CD audio and far more storage. Sega marketed it on full-motion video, and Night Trap, Sewer Shark and the other FMV games are what most people remember.
The best games on it used the hardware differently: Sonic CD, Lunar: The Silver Star and Lunar: Eternal Blue, Snatcher, Popful Mail, Shining Force CD and Keio Flying Squadron. Working Designs' Lunar releases and Konami's Snatcher are the most valuable, especially complete with their extras.
There are front-loading Model 1 units and top-loading Model 2 units, each built to match a Genesis model. Drive belts and laser units are common failure points, so tested hardware is worth paying for. Games came in long boxes early and jewel cases later; cracked cases are common but easy to replace.
